Rêveur L’Amoureux Dialogue Sample #2

SCENE: Late at night in the gallery of Dr. Steadman, CHARLIE, an elderly janitor has a mysterious encounter while mopping the gallery floor.

INT. ART GALLERY – NIGHT

The lights come up. Barely enough for someone to see.

CHARLIE, a janitor about sixty-five years old, enters the gallery.

He pushes a wheeled bucket full of soapy water into the room using the mop inside as a kind of makeshift handle. Once inside, he begins to mop the floor, whistling a happy a little tune as he does.

MONTAGE

From several vantage points, almost as if through security cameras, we watch Charlie work alone.

The last shot of the montage is a view of Charlie working shot at floor level. The left portion of the scene is taken up by a shadowy figure dressed in what appears to be an oversized ball gown.

Charlie glances up from his work and notices the figure.

CHARLIE
(Startled)
How the hell did you get in here?

The figure does not reply.

CHARLIE
Well, I’m sorry but the gallery is closed. You best get on home now.

The figure does not move.

CHARLIE
Didn’t you hear me? I said beat it!

Still the figure does not move. Charlie is becoming visibly angry now.

CHARLIE
All right, if you’re gonna play it like that...

He begins advancing toward the figure.

CHARLIE
I don’t normally do this, but you leave me no…

SHADOWED DAGGER

A dark, shadowy hand raises a dagger in the air.

CHARLIE

The dagger plunges into his heart.

Bewildered, Charlie screams in pain, his eyes filled with shock and horror. He slumps to the floor.

The shadowed figure strides purposefully back into the gallery. The bottom of its gown noisily RUSTLES as it brushes past the dead Charlie’s face.
