David Walter Dietz, III was born on March 15, 1970, in a hospital in the small Southwestern Pennsylvania town of Sewickley to David W. and Ann M. Dietz, Jr. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree in Communications Management from Robert Morris College (now University) in Pittsburgh, and for more than a decade has served as a marketing/technical writer/editor and desktop publisher with many Pittsburgh-based companies, including South Hills Datacomm (now part of Black Box, Inc.), Dick’s Clothing & Sporting Goods, Fisher Scientific, ANSYS, Inc., Innerlink Strategic Solutions, and, currently, Westinghouse. He also holds a Secondary Education teaching certification (in English, Communications, and Social Studies) and offers his considerable skills as a marketing communications professional on a freelance basis.
He has a brother, Brett, who is a graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA, is a musician, composer, and percussion instructor at Lousiana State University. Brett is also one of the founding members of Tempus Fugit, a percussion ensemble that has released two CD’s of classical and contemporary compositions. An avid writer, not only of professional marketing and advertising copy, but also fictional stories and plays, many of David’s sci-fi stories appeared in publications of the Drakmärian Alliance, a Star Trek-based sci-fi/fantasy fan organization. As an Alliance Command Extension (ACE), David also had a regular column in Allegiance, the Alliance’s quarterly newsletter, and submitted articles on a regular basis. Most of his articles dealt with current and classic science fiction television series. He was also a regular contributor the monthly magazines Epi-Log and Epi-Log Journal. David has also written a Star Trek-based novella entitled Kilroi which begins the chronicles of the voyages of the Enterprise-B under the command of Captain Jack Barnsmith (John Harriman’s successor) and his new crew!
